A patio heater cover is cheap insurance for an expensive heater: sun, rain, snow and dust age a heater fast, and a cover keeps it ready for the next cold evening. This guide to the best patio heater cover compares five on what each listing states: size and fit, fabric and denier, water rating, closures and vents, and extras. Four share the standard size and differ on fabric and features; the fifth is the oversized option. Every claim below comes from the listings; where a listing is silent, the guide says so. Use the quick picks for the short version and the buying guide for the reasoning.

Specifications are manufacturer rated, as published on each listing and collected 22 October 2026. Four of the five share the standard 89 by 33 by 19 in size.

How we scored them

Each cover is scored on performance, build, value, safety and warranty. The OutdoorLines leads on the fullest spec sheet: 420D fabric, a 3,000 PA waterproof rating, UV layer, vents and multiple sizes. The ANSTROUT follows on 420D fabric with reinforced stitching. The Easy-Going, Amazon Basics and Hualedi trail on thinner specs, with the Amazon Basics the only one rated water-resistant rather than waterproof. One listing states a warranty term: OutdoorLines at 3 years. No listing states a safety certification, so safety sits at zero across the board. The middle order is close: the ANSTROUT beats the Easy-Going on fabric, the Easy-Going beats it back on vents and color. The Amazon Basics trades waterproofing for size, and the Hualedi trades documentation for simplicity. None of that moves the top two.

Product Woodlot Score Perf. /35 Build /25 Value /25 Safety /10 Warranty /5

ANSTROUT 420D Heater Cover 9.4 27 21 20 0 0

Amazon Basics Heater Cover 9.4 26 20 20 0 0
Hualedi Patio Heater Cover 9.3 26 19 19 0 0

Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.

Buying guide: the best patio heater cover

Size and fit

Four of the five are the standard 89 in high by 33 in dome by 19 in base, for most propane patio heaters. The Amazon Basics is the outlier at 36 by 18.5 by 95 in, fitting heaters up to 95 in high with a 34 in dome. Measure your heater before buying, as every listing here advises, and the Amazon Basics adds a rule of thumb: choose a cover at least 2 in larger in length and width than the heater. Dome shape matters too: the standard 33 in dome covers the reflector top, and the 19 in base wraps the pole foot. A cover that fits the dome but binds at the base will tear at the zipper, so measure all three dimensions, not just the height.

Fabric and denier

Oxford fabric dominates: the Hualedi, Easy-Going, ANSTROUT and OutdoorLines all use it. The ANSTROUT and OutdoorLines specify upgraded 420D, thicker with a waterproof coating on the back. The Amazon Basics uses 100 percent woven polyester with a laminated undercoating and interlocking seams. Higher denier means thicker, more tear-resistant fabric; the 420D listings make that claim explicitly. Backing matters as much as face fabric. The Easy-Going’s waterproof backing, the ANSTROUT’s waterproof coating on the back, and the Amazon Basics’ laminated undercoating all do the same job: stop water that gets through the weave. A coated back is what separates a rain cover from a dust cover. The Amazon Basics takes the other path: woven polyester with a laminated undercoating and interlocking seams for strength. Polyester will not match 420D oxford for tear resistance, but the laminated back and sewn seams make it a legitimate rain cover rather than a dust sheet.

Waterproof vs water-resistant

Four listings claim waterproof; the Amazon Basics claims water-resistant with a laminated undercoating to minimize seepage. The OutdoorLines goes furthest with a stated 3,000 PA maximum water pressure and a UV resistant layer. For a heater that lives outside year-round, the waterproof rating matters; for seasonal storage under cover, water-resistant is enough. UV is the slow killer the water rating ignores. The OutdoorLines is the only listing here with a stated UV resistant layer, and sun rots fabric faster than rain in many climates. If your heater sits in full sun, the UV layer is worth more than a higher water number.

Closures and vents

Zippers dominate: full-length zippers on the Hualedi, Easy-Going, ANSTROUT and OutdoorLines for easy on and off. Bottoms close three ways: the Hualedi’s hard plastic buckle strap, drawstrings and elastic cords on the others, with the Easy-Going and OutdoorLines adding cord locks. The Easy-Going and OutdoorLines add air vents to reduce condensation and wind lofting, the detail that separates thoughtful covers from sacks. One-person handling is the usability check. The ANSTROUT’s large opening and full-length zipper are designed for solo install and removal; the Hualedi’s zipper and the Easy-Going’s full-length zipper do the same. A cover that needs two people will spend more days off the heater than on it. Trace the zipper path in your head before buying: full-length zippers win because they open the whole side, not just a slit.

Extras and colors

Storage bags come with the Hualedi, Easy-Going and OutdoorLines. The OutdoorLines is the only one in multiple sizes and colors, and the only one stated machine washable; the rest wipe clean with a damp cloth. The Easy-Going comes in camel as well as black; the rest are black. Small things, but a cover you can wash is a cover that lasts. The bag question is practical: the Hualedi, Easy-Going and OutdoorLines include one, so the cover has a home in summer. Without a bag, covers end up wadded in a corner, which is how zippers die.

Off-season storage

Three listings include a storage bag: the Hualedi, Easy-Going and OutdoorLines. The ANSTROUT folds to a very small size for storage, per its listing. The OutdoorLines is the only one stated machine washable; the rest clean with a damp cloth or hose and dry in the sun. Wash before storing, store dry, and the cover will be ready when the cold returns.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size patio heater cover do I need?

Measure your heater first, as every listing advises. Most standard propane heaters take the 89 by 33 by 19 in size four of these five use. The Amazon Basics fits up to 95 in high and advises choosing a cover at least 2 in larger than the heater. A cover that is too tight stresses the zipper and tears at the seams; a cover that is too loose becomes a sail. The 2 in rule is the sweet spot, and it is the only sizing rule any listing here states.

Is 420D fabric better?

It is thicker. The ANSTROUT and OutdoorLines both use upgraded 420D oxford with a waterproof coating on the back, claiming greater tear and weather resistance than standard oxford or polyester. The other three state no denier.

What is the difference between waterproof and water-resistant here?

The Amazon Basics is rated water-resistant with a laminated undercoating; the other four claim waterproof, with the OutdoorLines stating 3,000 PA. For year-round outdoor exposure, pick a waterproof rating.

Do I need a vented cover?

Vents reduce inside condensation and wind lofting, per the Easy-Going and OutdoorLines listings. In damp climates they are worth having; in dry ones they matter less.

Will the cover fit a non-standard heater?

Probably not from this group. Four of the five are the standard 89 by 33 by 19 in size; only the Amazon Basics goes bigger at 95 in high. Measure your heater’s height, dome and base, and match all three, as the listings advise.

How do I clean a patio heater cover?

Wipe with a damp cloth or hose and dry in the sun, per the listings. The OutdoorLines is also stated machine washable. The Hualedi, Easy-Going and OutdoorLines include a storage bag for the off season.
